This Thursday at 8pm:
Special Guest(s): David Tanner
Be sure to listen in. This week we will be talking about the Drummer. If the bassist is the heartbeat, the pianist is the brain, the soloists are the voice, then the drummer is the legs that inspire the soloist to move along or relax.
We will be talking about four great drummers spanning the era from early jazz to the new kids. Warren "Baby" Dodds, Kenny Clarke, the late great Max Roach, Elvin Jones, and we will try to get a word or two from some local drummers. This will give you the opportunity to give you some sense of what it is to really be a jazz drummer and what kind of skill these great musicians have.
We will also be giving away tickets to the 1940s Radio Hour featuring the Pacific Jazz Ensemble.
So Check it out! It will be a great show!
See you there
-Chris

This was a great show. The more i do this show the more and more I am learning about the genre I love so much. Don't be too afraid I am sure we will be coming back to some of these great drummers.

Correction!
So on last thursday's show I was totally wrong in making an educated guess about where Miss Ella Fitzgerald came from. So here's the facts:
In January 1935 Ella won the chance to perform for a week with the Tiny Bradshaw band at the Harlem Opera House. Ella met drummer and bandleader Chick Webb here for the first time. Webb had already hired male singer Charlie Linton to work with the band, and was, The New York Times later wrote, "reluctant to sign her....because she was gawky and unkempt, a diamond in the rough."[4] Webb offered Ella the opportunity to test with his band when they played a dance at Yale University. Despite the rough crowd, Ella was a great success, and Webb hired her to travel with the band for US$12.50 a week.
sorry and/or my bad folks, but I fixed it right? Anyway, it's all good now.
ONE MORE ANNOUNCEMENT!
I have 2 pairs of tickets for the premier showing of The 1940s Radio Hour. I am GIVING THESE AWAY ON MY SHOW. If you are interested in having a chance to win them, just shoot me an e-mail Christopher.sax@gmail.com with 1940s in the subject bar. No one has sent me a message and these tickets have to go. Overall, it was a really fun show that night. We got our first callers from John Coltrane, Dave Brubeck, and even my dad. Pretty exciting. It was great and only got better as time went by. I have a feeling like this isn't the last time we will see Nila and Eli again.
Thanks for listening!

Episode 2: Trane's Prayer

Special Guest: Leonila Salinas
Tonight we will be listening and discussing John Coltrane's famous album "A Love Supreme"
Also, we will be starting our venture outside of the immediate Jazz circle in search of jazz inspired artists.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This was a fun show for a couple of reasons. I got me first show out of the way last week and now I am not so nervous. I guess I was just a little razzled because I had to rush from my last class that night to get to the studio to do my show.
Thanks you Nila for being on my show. You made it fun.
Thanks for Listening!

THE BRUBECK FELLOWS
Trumpet: Brian Chahley
Tenor Sax: Ben Flocks
Piano: Javier Santiago
Bass: Chris Smith
Drums: Cory Cox
Tonight we will be introducing the whole campus and everyone else listening to the the Fellows. We will listen to some of the music they brought in and we will also be promoting their next Summit Gig
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This was a great show. Six people in one studio all talkin' about jazz. What a night. It was great to have the Fellows in the studio. This was the first show and by far the roughest, however, in the end I thought that I did an ok job.
Thanks for the Time!
